The Photography of Tim Holte, Katy Wimer, and Jeff McDonald

Exhibit: January 30 - February 23, 2005

Reception: Saturday, February 8, 2025, 1PM-3pm

Tim Holte

I appreciate light, shadows mean something. Every image is a frame of reference, a reminder of the past. Sometimes I think it would be easier not taking photographs. Maybe time would become more elastic and slow down.

Maybe the days, hours and minutes, like the ash blowing through the burning canyons, wouldn't disappear so quickly.

— Tim Holte

A Vietnam-era veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Tim Holte attended St. Cloud State University and spent a 42 year career in the sewer and water industry before retiring in 2017. Photography has been a passionate pursuit of Tim's for over 40 years.

Holte's photography has been exhibited at John Michael Kohler Art Center, Plymouth Art Center, UWM Union Art Gallery, Walker's Point Art Center, Milwaukee Art Museum, Whitewater Arts Alliance, H20 Gallery, Var Gallery, Concordia University Art Gallery, Art Bar, Cardinal Stritch Art Gallery, Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, and the Photo Midwest Gallery. "Icelandia", a collection of Tim's work, was published in the LensWork Magazine book, "Seeing in Sixes, 2018".

Katy Daixon Wimer

“Beauty in things exists in the mind which contemplates them.” - David Hume

This collection of images taken in Wisconsin, Italy, and Portugal captures beauty that is often overlooked, taken for granted, or seen as mundane or regular. Instead, I find the extraordinary, here, the arresting, the acknowledgement from the world that, yes, this truly exists; you're witnessing creation in some form or another. Let it dazzle and delight your heart.

— Katy Daixon Wimer

Katy Daixon Wimer is a photographer, writer, and healing artist who focuses heavily on the natural world, our place in it, and how it connects us to Spirit. She lives in Whitewater, WI in a cozy home with her husband and two cats.

Jeff McDonald

In the multiverse of genres that is photography, my passion, as both viewer and artist, lies where personal expression is manifest. Whether through selection of subject, choice of color or monochrome, application of camera technique, utilization of digital tools, or all of the above, my goal is always the same -- to create remarkable images that resonate. Sometimes I have a clear vision of a finished image when I open the shutter, but just as often the image comes to life later when I can evaluate its potential and coax it into how best to represent my vision.

Many photographic subjects, situations, and techniques offer fertile ground for personal expression. The "Webs in the Meadow" series appreciates some of the treasures to be found in a dewy prairie on a foggy day. "Race Day" observes the intensity of a heated bicycle race through a small downtown. The moving subjects in "Avian Abstracts" are akin to the renderings of an impressionist. "Shadows With Highlights" represent much of my black and white work with deep shadows and dramatic contrast. In "Interpretations", I transformed photographs into photo illustrations using digital tools -- each seeing itself in multiple, widely different variations before being blended back together for the final result. Some strong, independent photographs round out my part of the exhibition.
